Recent Events - Educational Talent Search 50th Anniversary STEAM Fair Event!

 

On October 17, 2015,  the TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science students presented STEM workshop sessions to other Illinois TRIO program participants in celebration of 50 years of TRIO Educational Talent Search programs. 

 

The event was held at Northeastern Illinois University's main campus and was set up by the Council for Opportunity in Education and hosted by TRIO UBMS.

 

The TRIO UBMS student participants presented sessions that included computer programming, hands-on science activities, and robotics building and coding. A wonderful job to all our students who practiced and presented their content in their sessions successfully!

 

 

Event Highlights

Destination Chicago: August 15, 2014

 

On August 15, 2014,  TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science summer program students were invited by Chicago City of Learning to present to the community different STEM projects they had been working on that summer.

 

​TRIO UBMS program participants presented at the Destination Chicago Maker Fair session that took place at the Chicago Cultural Center.

 

In addition, Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, spoke to our students about the importance of STEM/STEAM and the significance to continue pursuing those fields. 

HACU Event: October 25th, 2013

 

On October 25th 2013,  the Center for College Access and Succees, in collaboration with Northeastern Illinois University, sponsored the HACU Youth Leadership Development Forum. This event was designed to foster STEM education to 8th and 9th graders from GEAR UP Schools. 

 

​TRIO UBMS program participants were tasked to deliver all the workshops to the 200 attending GEAR UP Students. 

 

In addition, TRIO Alumn, Jose Hernandez shared his key to success with our TRIO UBMS students.

STEAM Conference 05/02/2015
This was our 5th Annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Architecture/Agriculture, and Mathematics (STEAM) Conference. The event is free to middle school, high school, college students, teachers, educators and parents!
CHCI Ready2Lead (R2L) 04/18/2015
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science students attended and participated in the event that took place on Northeastern Illinois University's main campus. TRIO UBMS supported with the recruitment of event participants.
Robotics Week 04/04/2015
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program participated in the 3rd Annual National Robotics Week event. There was an internal competition for the VEX Skyrise challenge for our robotics clubs from our partner schools as well as workshop sessions revolved around robotics learning. The event was free to middle school, high school, college students, teachers, educators and parents.
Hour of Code 12/13/2014
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program celebrated the global Hour of Code event by providing middle school and high school students with computer programming workshop sessions to all attending event participants. This event took place on Northeastern Illinois University's main campus.
STEAM Fair 11/15/2014
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program celebrated the 50th anniversary of Upward Bound by delivering STEM workshop sessions to all attending event participants. This event took place at University of Chicago's campus.
STEAM Conference 05/03/2014

TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science students attended and participated in the event that took place on Northeastern Illinois University's main campus. TRIO UBMS supported with the recruitment of event participants.
Robotics Week 04/05/2014
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program participated in the 2nd Annual National Robotics Week event. There was an internal scrimmage event for the VEX Toss Up challenger for our robotics clubs from our partner schools as well as workshop sessions for robotics learning. The event was free to middle school, high school, college students, teachers, educators and parents.
SfT Family Science Day 03/15/2014
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program supported the Columbia College Chicago Scientists for Tomorrow program in their 2nd event at the Field Museum Art/Architecture/Agriculture and Mathematics Conference. Program participants served as leaders for middle school and parents attending this event.
HACU YDLF Event 10/10/2013
TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program students delivered workshop sessions to 200 GEAR UP students.
